About the role:

The Mine Geology team is currently seeking an experienced Mine Geologist to join them on an 8/6 days only roster based at Hancock Iron Ore Contract Mines. Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, you will be responsible for ensuring quality product is mined and delivered to our customers at all times, while supporting the operation in the delivery of all aspects of Mine Geology to HIO standards. HIO Contract Mines Technical Services team run a centralised approach, where technical oversight covers all active HIO Contract Mines Operations. There will be plenty of crossover between all our operations inclusive of owner operations at the Roy Hill mine, providing great diversification, and a range of orebody exposure.


Duties:

  • Monitoring, conducting and reviewing reconciliation processes in line with daily, weekly and monthly requirements
  • Monitoring laboratory performance and managing sample analysis priorities
  • Assisting the Senior Mine Geologist with ensuring new starter Mine Geologists and Pit Technicians are fully trained and comply with the HIO Iron geological standards and processes
  • Develop and communicate geological training and awareness packages as required
  • Facilitate operational grade control programs including blast hole and crusher product sampling, data management, processing, and QA/QC
  • Assist with the development, implementation, or improvement of operational systems for HIO sites by providing support and expertise
  • Undertaking improvement projects as identified and or assigned by the Senior Mine Geologist or Superintendent Mine Geology
  • Execute the construction and reclamation of site product stockpiles in accordance with the Stockyard Management Plan to ensure the delivery of physical and chemical targets and specifications
  • Implement the accurate collection of lithological, stratigraphic, structural and physical data through face mapping mine exposures and blast cone logging
  • Monitor dilution and ore recovery across the mining operation, communicating potential impacts to relevant parties
  • Manage the ROM and Stockyard in line with the Integrated Plans provided by the Port and Shipping team
  • Investigate and advise on grade trends against Mining and Grade Control models used to inform the short- and medium-term planning horizons
  • Assist with end of month data validation and reconciliation processes, by providing the Senior Geologist with the end of month data validation and reconciliation processes for authorisation
  • Complete Product Quality updates reconciling crushing physical and chemical performance and advising key stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Identify and advise Geological risk within the short to medium term planning horizons
  • Deliver on personal objectives within a set of agreed KPI’s
  • As required cover the responsibilities of the other team members for any unplanned absence

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years experience as a Mine Geologist in multi-pit open cut operations
  • Relevant academic qualifications in Geology and specific experience
  • Grade Control experience or exposure
  • Geological knowledge of Iron Ore
  • Track record of successfully delivering on team and personal KPIs
  • Well developed computing skills including mining software and MS Office
  • Vulcan, OrePro and Minemarket experience (desirable)
  • Moderate interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, customers and peers at all times
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Proactive approach, with the ability to work without supervision and make independent decisions
  • Flexible in approach with an adaptive style to suit changing workplace requirements
  • C Class Manual Driver’s License
